Lytham St. Anne’s Set To Bask In Soaring Temperatures This Week

A mini-heat wave is set to hit Lytham St Anne’s this week as temperatures nationally could soar to 30C. This has given rise to a yellow heat health alert in our region. The warnings come into place at 8.00 a.m. today (Monday 24th June) and remain until 5.00 p.m. on Thursday 27th June.

The North West, Yorkshire & Humberside, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West all face yellow heat warnings. The alerts, issued by the UK Health Security Agency and Met Office, warns of the threat of increased deaths among older and vulnerable people.

Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth explained: ‘The jet stream with a strong jet core is going to push up to the north of the UK and that will allow this high pressure to the south to build. As the jet stream amplifies to the north of the UK, that will allow heat to build from the south, particularly across the southwest at first but that heat builds more widely through the week. We are quite confident that it is going to stay warmer than average for at least the next 10 days.’
